i was surprised to see some photographic exhibits at the japanese garden worthy of a fashion magazine front cover.
on my recent visit to the mingei, i came across one of the sculptures displayed on the pedestal. It pulled me like a magnet and came closer to it. I looked at it at every angle for a little while and the last thing i did was took a closer look at the name of the artist. Yoonchung Kim. I immediately remembered she was my ceramics professor back in college and whom i learned from the ancient method of japanese clay firing - the raku. I considered her as one of the best art teachers. Thank you professor Kim.
the expanded japanese garden in balboa park. Everything is slowly and meticulously done by hand where no heavy equipment and giant Komatsu in sight. It should become lush in five years. I still can wait.
move over kassett boxes! There's a new diva in interiordom - my new hermes stacking boxes that i truthfully acquired from my work at a blow-out price!. Just adore everything about it. From its signature orange color; the baseball stitching all around; the infamous leather H-handles all the way to the velvet-lined interior. Now, i have the perplexing dilemma on what to put in them! I am just contemplating on maybe gingerly storing all those cheesy love letters in them. And yes people, i do embrace my inner cheesiness!
it only worked for the mummies but not for today's high end furniture. So the I.M. Pei-like pyramid on miramar road had became a landmark on its own location, i don't think that it will be remembered fondly by all like the Louvre.
as one of the last remaing occupants of the glass and steel structure our days are numbered as we prepare to move to a bigger location not far away from where we are now (is it the valley of the kings?). During the last seven months i have developed a loving relationship with the building - the views of the golf-course across the street; the roaring jet planes above our head; the mid-day lunches in the palm-lined atrium - just stuff an average worker could ask for. my present job is my second incarnation in the pyramid. The first one when i was fresh out of college and i was a design assistant for the now-demise Treasures Furniture. I still remember its glorious days with its sweeping staircase and my little drafting office in one of the corners at the base of pyramid. Those days are gone when this pyramid was built to rival the now-defunct san diego design center in sorrento valley. i wonder if i could still have the same mid-day lunches on our new location. But i heard there is a fountain. Hmm... aah. the sights and scents of summer i can only dream of: pricey sunglasses, blue convertibles-top down, designer summer tanks and shorts, justin timberlake tour tickets, nantucket island and sailboat, zayn malik, and... only the best sit down gossip session over a cup of iced coffee with my closest friends...
have an endless summer to all... |
